Madje is a rare sight on the streets of Jerusalem. In her words she is

The only Palestinian female taxi driver in Jerusalem.

A mother of five, she used to be a cleaner and work only indoors. In order to do her job and to secure customers, she wears a Jewish headscarf at work. She says it’s because people are afraid to take a taxi driven by a woman in a hijab (Muslim headscarf). She chooses her customers carefully, mainly helping women and the elderly.

Madje aspires to one day become a bus driver, as this will mean more regular working hours and security in her work.

Watch this film and follow Madje as she journeys across Jerusalem as the only female Palestinian Muslim taxi driver, and shares her life and experiences as a Woman in Work.
